University of Maine 4-H Camp and Learning Center at Bryant Pond (formerly Maine Conservation School): for over 50 years we have combined the fun of outdoor experiential education with discoveries about the natural world and the learning of practical outdoor skills. Bryant Pond 4-H Camp offers summer camps and programs for children and teens, teacher workshops, and adult outdoor skills programs. Our programs are designed to follow learning strands or "paths" as they move students from basic skills to more advanced skills. Each path has its own unique way of demonstrating and reinforcing our connection to and dependence on the natural world. Helping people, young and old, learn to take care of themselves in the natural world as they learn to care for our resources is one of the school's most important goals. Located on the shores of Lake Christopher, just south of Bethel, the school's campus includes a full waterfront, hiking trails, 170 acres of forest and shorefront habitats, outdoor classrooms, lodge, rifle and archery range, and a low ropes course. Directions: We are located off Route 26 in Western Maine. Traveling north, take the Gray exit from the Maine turnpike and head north on Route 26. Immediately after the town of Bryant Pond (and the town's ball field), turn left onto Lakeside Road and look for our sign after the railroad tracks.
Hours: 8am - 4pm Monday - Thursday (Nov - Feb). 8am - 4pm Monday - Friday (Mar - Oct).
