The White Mountain National Forest covers nearly 800,000 acres in both Maine and New Hampshire. There are five public CAMPGROUNDS in the National Forest that offer a forest setting and limited services. For reservations in those campgrounds, call at least five days in advance of your planned arrival to 877-444-6777, or take your chances -- the campgrounds near Bethel are rarely full. These are Crocker Pond Campground, 3 miles south of Bethel off Routes 5/35 and Hastings Campground, Rt. 113, 4 miles south of Gilead/Rt. 2.
