17th Annual Maine State Triathlon / Aquabike

Adults’ Race:  Sunday, 08/03  ~ 8am

Kids’ Race:  Saturday, 08/02 ~ 3pm
 
A very "do-able" event for teams or individuals (adult race).

A sprint triathlon (adult race):

1 km swim at Songo Pond

25 km bike race on scenic country paved roads

5 km cross-country woods run.

8:00 AM start.

Brief Description:

Adults’ triathlon: 1k swim, 25k cycle, 5k run.

Kids' triathlon:     200yd. swim, 2.1 mile cycle, 1 mile run. --

Adult Tri: $55 until July 18, individual;  $90 until July 18, team
Kids' Tri: $20 until July 18 (no teams)

Adult: After July 18 -- $65 individual, $100 team. (No t-shirt guaranteed.)

Bethel is where Routes 2, 26, & 5 merge -- 70 miles northeast of Portland, Maine; 22 miles east of Gorham, NH.

Race Check-in:  Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Crescent Park School, 19 Crescent Lane (use Crescent Street for map search), Bethel. 

3-6pm.

Recommended RACE MEETING for adult race, 7pm in CPS gymnasium.

Adult Divisions/Categories:

-Triathlon: 5-year age divisions.
-Aquabike category (swim/bike).
-Two alternative race categories: Novice (your definition is fine, just be fair!) and Athena/Clydesdale (women 150+ lbs. / men 200+ lbs.)
So, you compete in ONE of four categories only –

regular age divisions,

novice,

Athena/Clydesdale,

or aquabike.

(There are NO age groupings in novice or Athena/Clydesdale. Aquabike has two age groups: 39 & under, 40 & up.)

Pasta Dinner:

Pasta Dinner, Saturday night, August 2, 5-7pm, at Crescent Park School cafeteria, 19 Crescent Lane (use Crescent Street for map search), Bethel.  

$10 adult, $6 child, 12 & under.  Advance payment required.

Hosted by and to benefit Crescent Park School Parent Teacher Association.

Adult Course Description:

1 kilometer swim, Songo Pond, Routes 5/35 south of Bethel.
25 kilometer bike, South on Routes 5/35, 2.5 miles past 5/35 & Vernon St. intersection, turnaround, return north on 5/35; right on Vernon St, north to Main St., right on Main, left on Railroad St., left on Church St, right into driveway of fieldhouse, right onto grass.
5 kilometer run, across soccer fields, up through woods to Route 5. STRAIGHT ACROSS into XC ski trails -- course loop around trails & back to Rt. 5. Back down & thru soccer fields to finish.

Child Course Description:

200 yard swim, across Angevine Pond at Angevine Park (North Road, Bethel).
2.1 mile bike, east on North Road to Big Adventure Center.
1 mile run, under Rt. 2 highway bridge, up and over recreational bridge over the Androscoggin River,  along the Bethel Recreational Pathway to a cone, and back to BIG Adventure Center

  This kids' triathlon is a non-competitive  race...everyone is a winner!  The kids’ race will not be timed.  Check your watch to know your time. 

A “Medal of Recognition” will be awarded to each participate at the end of the race.

One of the most beautiful courses in New England, the Maine State Triathlon draws athletes from throughout Maine, NH, VT, NY, MA and Quebec.  Gift certificates for winners and some other prizes. Come and see for yourself why this is one of the most popular triathlons around!
