#2: Directions Fields for Businesses

Motivation

Some businesses located outside of Bethel require directions in order to be accessible to tourists.  This proposal would add several options for providing directions in a business listing.

Proposal

As directions could require a lot of text it seems this would be a link called "directions" probably located under the address in a business listing. The link would go to the full business listing page where directions from various locations could be described, e.g. from I95, I93, Bethel center, etc.

This would require the addition of a new field to the member business object for textual directions and probably a field for a Map Quest or Google Maps link as well.

Implementation

  • Add a field called "Directions"  to all Member business types.
  • Add a field called "Map Link" to all Member business types.
  • Update business view template.
  • Add "directions" link to business directory template that links to business view template.  Only display the directions link if a business has added directions.

Deliverables

  • Updated Member business types with new fields.  Members will be required to fill in the new fields themselves.
  • Update the Member manual.
  • Create a news item for the Member Area detialing the changes.
  • Send out an e-mail notice with links to instructions.

I think a field for directions should be added. I like that it would be a click away so that it doesn't fill the business lists page.

Then there should be some notice written up for the members and a news item for the Member Area. Also the Manual would need to be updated, etc. But about 1 - 2 hours programming and then 1- 2 hours doing all the notices and documentation updates.

I added the manual and notrice updates to the deliverables, although Chamber staff may do those parts.

Glad that you noticed this new area and jumped right on it! I was just going to e-mail you guys about it.
