    Event Description:

    To mark the 100th anniversary of the first land purchase in Maine for what, in 1918, would become the White Mountain National Forest, we will hold a joint program with the Gilead Historical Society at the Town Hall in Gilead.

    Lunch will be available (as a fundraiser for GHS) starting at 11:00 am, followed at 1:30 pm by "A Century of the White Mountain National Forest in Maine," a lecture presented by David Govatski of Jefferson, New Hampshire.

    David Govatski is a forester and environmental consultant who worked for the U.S. Forest Service for more than thirty years. He is also co-author, with Christopher Johnson, of Forests for the People: The Story of America?s Eastern National Forests (2013).
