To protect small businesses, Governor Mills requested, and the Small Business Administration (SBA) approved, economic support loans to Maine small businesses in order to help them overcome any temporary loss of revenue due to COVID-19. To protect Maine workers, Governor Mills and the Legislature passed emergency legislation that revises eligibility for unemployment insurance to extend it to individuals whose employment has been impacted by COVID-19.

Disaster Relief Loans
Business owners can apply for a Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Relief Loan Application. Business owners can also call the SBA disaster relief hotline at 1-800-659-2955.
FAME (Finance Authority of Maine) has numerous resources for individuals (sole proprietors and employees), lenders, and businesses. Details here.
Unemployment claims can be filed online. Claimants do not need to do anything special for claims related to COVID-19. See the Maine.gov Unemployment page for a list of FAQ's related specifically to this crisis, or submit questions to Maine Department of Labor staff. As of March 18, waiting periods to collect benefits have been waived, as well as work search requirements.
As of April 10, the state is still waiting for federal guidance on any extra federal benefits, including those for sole proprietors and the proposed extra $600 federal benefit for anyone receiving unemployment insurance from the state.
