THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED
This ski enduro/rally style event is unlike any other challenge in the world! It combines the excitement of downhill skiing with the precision of a timed road rally, all while raising money to support the youth in our communities. Only one winner will be crowned 2020 Master of the Mountain.
During the Master of the Mountain Challenge, participants are asked to ski to a series of check points on Sunday River slopes. This timed event aims for contestants to ski certain trails at a controlled aggressive pace. Goal is to come as close to the pre-determined target time. Target times will be posted on the top of each run.
Competitors can choose to race is two categories.
All skiers are chipped so their progress through the course can be tracked. The objective is to come as close to the pre-determined target time without going under. While the pace is likely to be challenging, it is not designed to be reckless. One trail you can ski as fast as possible? The giant slalom course on Race Area of course!
There will be two categories, Elite and Advanced. Each category will consist of eight trails spread out over eight peaks. Elite will feature double black diamond trails. Advanced will feature single black and blue trails. Check points will be positioned at the start of the designated trail, and at the lift at the base of that trail. There will be no timing between segments or the lift rides. How the participant approaches this challenge is up to them. They just must complete all segments in a four hour time frame. Finish will be located at the Peak Lodge.
The winners will be selected by tallying how close each participant came to the ideal time without going under the target (which would be considered too fast) plus the fastest race result from the GS course. As in Enduro racing, there is more penalty for being faster than the ideal time than slower. The goal is to reward precision and skill rather than pure speed.
One overall winner: A jacket with Masters of the Mountain embroidered on it.
