Science on Screen, where we pair fun films with mini-presentations by local experts with a goal to promote scientific literacy through entertainment. First Friday each month.
March 2nd Film: The Martian - directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon
Speaker: Dr. Henning Haack, Research Associate at the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum in Bethel and faculty at ScienceTalents in Denmark.
Title of talk: Meteorites and the Origin of the Solar System
Dr. Haack will touch on how Meteorites bring us closer to understanding the origin of life on our own planet and to answering two of the most important questions of all times: Why are we here? Are we alone?
Date & Times: Friday, March 2nd
The evening will begin at 6:00pm with an informal gathering with the presenter. The lecture will begin at 6:30 and will be followed by the film at 7:00. A brief discussion will be held post-screening.
Cost: Admission for this event is $8.00 for the public, $6.00 for members of The Gem and is FREE to high school students.
