DESCRIPTION:Amazing Grace is presented in partnership with BAAM's Exhibition on Screen series and the West Parish Congregational Church's Faith and Film series. Amazing Grace captures the astounding gospel performance of Aretha Franklin as she sings at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles in 1972.\n\n\n\nAretha Franklin recorded her live album Amazing Grace over the course of two days at this venue. The album went on to become the highest-selling gospel music album of all time. Sydney Pollack captured the performance on film\, but was unable to complete it because he did not use a clapperboard to help synchronize the sound and picture at the beginning of each take. Before his death in 2008\, he turned the footage over to producer\, Alan Elliot\, who succeeded in synchronizing the sound and picture after many years of work.\n\n\n\nWe now get to enjoy Aretha Franklin's concert film right here in Bethel on May 17th!
