    Over 2,800 Competitors Complete 10th Annual Tough Mountain Challenge
    Two-day event at Sunday River Resort included 5k mountain obstacle race for ages 13 and older; kids race for ages 4-12
    NEWRY, ME (July 28, 2019)—Sunday River Resort held its 10th annual Tough Mountain Challenge, a 5k obstacle race up and down the ski slopes, on Saturday, July 27. The resort also had a race for kids ages 4-12 on Sunday, July 28.
    Over 2,800 people ages 13 and older raced in the adult event, which featured 21 obstacles over the course of 3.2 miles. Obstacles included mud pits with barbed wire, snowmaking guns firing water, a hill climb, crossing over the Barker Basin pond, and more.
    First place for the entire event was awarded to 16-year-old Cameron Croft of Sidney, Maine, who finished the race in 39 minutes and eight seconds. Awards were presented to the top racers for male and females under 30; 30-39; 40-49, and over 50, as well as the fastest team finishers. All results for the adult race are now available online.
    450 kids also joined in on the fun on Sunday, July 28 with races for ages 10-12, 7-9, and 4-6 during the Mini Mountain Challenge. These races used elements from the adult race, along with some kid-friendly fun like a ball pit and foam party.

Registration for next year’s Tough Mountain Challenge, which will be held on July 25, 2020, is now open. Registration for the Mini Mountain Challenge on July 26, 2020 will open later on in the year.
