Calling All Kids and Cake Lovers! (Using cake to understand rocks!)
CALLING ALL KIDS and CAKE LOVERS! This month's Third Thursday Talk is for you! Geology can be hard for us to grasp, so author (and middle school teacher) Katie Coppens uses cake to help kids understand the different rock types. Join us for a fun, hands-on educational experience that is sure delight.
While geared towards 7-11 year olds, the presentation is open to all ages, especially the young at heart. Learn a little geology and have your cake and eat it too!
Katie Coppens lives in Maine with her husband and two children. Katie teaches at Falmouth Middle School, where her background as both a science and English teacher has a great influence on her writing. In 2016, her first book was published through the National Science Teacher's Association entitled Creative Writing in Science: Activities that Inspire. Katie has an upcoming children's chapter book series through Tilbury House Publishers entitled The Acadia Files, which teaches science concepts through a narrative style. Copies of Katie's book "Geology is a Piece of Cake" will be available for sale at the talk.
